Hybridyne debuts endocavity gamma camera

Canadian gamma camera developer Hybridyne Imaging Technologies has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its ProxiScan gamma camera.

ProxiScan may be used intraoperatively, on pathological specimens, and for endocavity applications if a protective sheath is used, according to the Toronto-based firm. ProxiScan employs a small cadmium zinc telluride (CZT)-based compact gamma camera developed by Hybridyne in collaboration with scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY.

The system is also capable of imaging radiopharmaceuticals distributed within anatomical regions of interest located close to the camera head, Hybridyne said. Testing of the system in shaped phantoms has shown spatial resolutions as low as 1-2 mm, according to the firm.
