Cardinal Health of Dublin, OH, is warning its customers of "zero to critically low" supplies of the radioisotope technetium-99m (Tc-99m) for much of the rest of May.
In its May 17 update, Cardinal expects zero to critically low availability of Tc-99m from May 16 through May 20. The supply improves at the end of the week and the weekend, but declines again to critically low levels on May 24 through May 27.
As has been the case for several months, Tc-99m supplies have been severely affected by the absence of molybdenum-99 production at Atomic Energy of Canada's National Research Universal reactor in Chalk River, Ontario, and Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group's High Flux Reactor in Petten, the Netherlands.
Both the Chalk River and Petten facilities are scheduled to return to service in August.
