ACS takes cyclotron order

Advanced Cyclotron Systems (ASC) of Richmond, British Columbia, has sold cyclotrons to the University of Alberta's department of oncology in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as to Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

The company is working with the two academic institutions to develop a new type of cyclotron that can produce technetium-99m and help alleviate the shortage of medical isotopes in North America.

ACS expects to have the new cyclotrons built and operating within a year.
