Breast-specific gamma imaging (BSGI) developer Dilon Diagnostics said that researchers from George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC, are reporting favorable BSGI results in an article published in the June issue of Academic Radiology.
In a study of patients with known or highly suspected breast cancer detected by mammography, BSGI detected additional cancers missed by the mammogram in 9% of the patients, according to the Newport News, VA-based firm. Half of these cancers were smaller than 1 cm, and some were as small as 1.5 mm, Dilon said.
