Nuclear medicine firm MDS Nordion of Ottawa has extended its agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the supply of cobalt-60 through 2020.
OPG will continue to supply raw materials to MDS Nordion for the company's medical sterilization and sealed-source products. The agreement provides MDS Nordion with additional long-term supply for its global customer base.
Cobalt-60 is used in gamma sterilization technologies for single-use disposable medical devices and supplies, such as pharmaceuticals, surgeon's gloves, syringes, sutures, and catheters.
