Philips nets CE Mark for PET/MRI

Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, has received the CE Mark for its whole-body Ingenuity TF PET/MRI system.

The system integrates the molecular imaging capabilities of PET with the soft-tissue contrast of MRI to image disease cells as they proliferate in soft tissue. The first system is installed at the University Hospital of Geneva in Switzerland.

Philips anticipates that clinicians will use Ingenuity TF PET/MRI to examine patients at high risk for heart disease to treat diseased cells prior to the formation of dangerous coronary plaques. The system may also be used to scan patients to detect tumor formation and recurrence.

Ingenuity TF is pending 510(k) clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
