Siemens Healthcare's Biograph mMR PET/MRI system is being tested at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' (USU) Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) for diagnosing and treating military service members and civilians suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Regina Armstrong, PhD, director of CNRM, said one major challenge in diagnosing and treating such conditions is the lack of sufficient tools to evaluate the type and extent of injury.
CNRM is a Department of Defense-funded collaboration that was launched in 2008 between the USU and the U.S. National Institutes of Health for research in TBI and PTSD.
