The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has released a draft environmental impact statement for Shine Medical Technologies' proposed medical isotope production facility in Janesville, WI.
The draft statement, now available for public review and comment, provides an analysis of the environmental, social, and economic effects of the proposed facility, according to Shine. NRC has issued a preliminary recommendation that Shine receive a permit to construct its facility, if plans pass the agency's safety review.
Shine hopes to begin commercial production of molybdenum-99 at the facility in 2018.
