The state government of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia will invest 12.5 million Australian dollars ($8.74 million U.S.) in an initiative to expand and advance nuclear medicine capabilities at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), a major source of radioisotopes.
The new announcement follows the NSW government's commitment announced in February to fund ANSTO's nuclear science and technology incubator, known as the Innovation Precinct, at ANSTO's Lucas Heights campus.
The project will include a next-generation nuclear medicine cluster to share research and other knowledge for the development of diagnostics and therapies to treat cancer and other diseases. In addition, the funds will fuel 25 new scholarships for graduate students who will work on advanced technology businesses in NSW.
