MRI experts release MRI safety handbook

A team of MRI experts have launched a safety handbook for the modality.

The Technologist's MRI Safety Handbook was written by Tobias Gilk, founder of Gilk Radiology Consultants in Overland Park, KS, and senior vice president of Radiology-Planning in Mission, KS; Douglas Boyd, of the University of Phoenix in Arizona; and Pete Jablonka of RadNet.

The text is designed to "start at the beginning" of MRI safety and "to give the MRI student or young practitioner a full and complete picture of the practicalities of implementing MRI safety based on our best scientific understandings of the risks," the group noted.
