FDA clears new ADAC radiation therapy software

ADAC Laboratories of Milpitas, CA, has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for a new version of its Pinnacle3 radiation therapy planning software. The new software, Version 5.0, supports new cancer treatment techniques and eliminates the manual steps used to export data to other radiation therapy devices.

ADAC also announced that it is developing an intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) package, the company's first IMRT product. IMRT allows radiation therapists to use beams of varying radiation intensities that are customized to the shape and size of the tumor, thus sparing healthy tissue. ADAC will offer the IMRT package as a module on Pinnacle3, with availability scheduled for June.
