Radiopharmaceutical provider International Isotopes has announced progress in building a fully automated production process for its iodine-125 seeds. The Denton, TX-based firm has put three welding and loading robots into service, with a fourth to be operational this month.
The next step to be automated is the seed assay, or testing process, according to the company. Two fully robotic assay systems are now undergoing qualification in the manufacturing facility, and are expected to be in production use shortly. Also, a computerized camera system for counting the seeds is expected to join the production process by the end of this quarter.
The company claims that automating its seed production process is resulting in a steady increase in output and revenues. Seed sales in July were 30% higher than in June, and the firm expects August sales to be 60% higher than in July.
In other news, the company announced new seed distribution agreements with several radiopharmacies, including Custom Care Pharmacy and Eastern Isotopes. Efforts are underway to obtain the CE Mark allowing for sales and marketing in Europe, according to the firm.
