Tissue ablation therapy developer RadioTherapeutics has released its RF 3000 radiofrequency generator and complementary 4-cm diameter LeVeen Needle Electrode, the company has announced.
The RF 3000 generator produces 200 watts of power, twice as much as the firm's RF 2000 generator, according to RadioTherapuetics of Sunnyvale, CA. The RF 3000 has additional safety and interface features that enable the physician to use the extra power without risk to the patient, the company said, while both generators have FDA clearance for the ablation of nonresectable tumors of the liver.
According to the company's director of clinical affairs, Thomas Lawson, RadioTherapeutics' generators are unique among their competitors in their ability to form a large, consistent thermal volume of necrosis, both in the lesion and in a surrounding buffer zone. Clinical results are being submitted for publication in peer-reviewed forums, he said.
