UPMC starts Leksell treatments

Patient treatments have begun at the Center for Image-Guided Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian with the Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system from Stockholm, Sweden-based Elekta.

The center currently is treating an average of three patients per day with full-course treatments.

The Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system is designed for the noninvasive treatment of brain disorders, including brain tumors and vascular malformations.
