Prowess gets FDA nod for RT software

Radiation therapy firm Prowess of Concord, CA, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its RealART real-time adaptive radiation therapy software.

RealART is used in conjunction with the company's Panther radiation therapy treatment planning system to compensate for changes in a patient's anatomy between the planning CT scan and the end of the final treatment.

The company believes that RealART enables radiation oncologists to treat patients with precise coverage of the tumor, offering a much higher cure rate and minimum damage to surrounding tissue.

RealART is available to new customers, as well as to current Prowess customers as a module upgrade. It can be used in conjunction with the CTVision system from Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, and other CT-on-rails systems.
