Elekta targets developing countries

Swedish oncology firm Elekta and Swedish investment firm Swedfund International have formed an investment company for financing and establishing cancer care projects in developing countries.

Called Global Medical Investments (GMI), the company will invest, develop, and support the establishment of cancer management programs in developing countries across the world in cooperation with local healthcare providers and partners, according to Elekta of Stockholm. Elekta and Swedfund will each invest up to $10 million in GMI.

GMI is in the final stage of developing the first radiotherapy center in Accra, Ghana, according to Elekta.
