Sicel wins implantable dosimeter contract

Dosimetry developer Sicel Technologies of Morrisville, NC, has won a contract with an Indiana healthcare facility for its implantable dosimeter.

Goshen Center for Cancer Care in Goshen is using Sicel's Dose Verification System (DVS), which allows physicians to measure the amount of radiation delivered to tumors and surrounding tissue. It consists of a thin capsule about the length of a dime that can be inserted inside the patient in less than 15 minutes, according to Sicel.

After each radiation treatment, the sensor provides the physician with a measurement of the actual amount of radiation hitting the target, allowing the physician to make any necessary adjustments to the prescribed dose during the course of radiation therapy. The sensor wirelessly transmits data to a handheld monitor, giving the doctor immediate feedback during each radiation treatment, Sicel said.
