New radiation oncology society takes shape

The American Society of Clinical Radiation Oncology (ASCRO) has officially launched.

The new nonprofit organization will primarily focus on acquiring Medicare provider status for clinical radiation oncology physicists, according to the Wexford, PA-based society.

With that goal in mind, ASCRO said it would work with existing organizations and will seek advice from societies such as the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
