Radiotherapy firm Accuray introduced the CyberKnife VSI system at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Chicago.
The new CyberKnife VSI, which stands for versatile, simple, and intelligent, is designed to offer additional options from radiosurgery to conventionally fractionated robotic intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), according to the Sunnyvale, CA-based firm.
Accuray describes product enhancements as including a 1,000 Mu/minute X-band linac, advanced visualization capabilities with automated segmentation, and logical workflow to facilitate treatment. With both capabilities -- radiosurgery and robotic IMRT -- the clinician is able to select the best course of treatment for each patient.
The company touts treatment times comparable to IMRT delivered using a conventional linear accelerator.
