Image-guided therapy firm Brainlab and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are teaming up to launch their Vero stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) system at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in San Diego.
Vero SBRT combines intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and real-time tumor tracking into one treatment delivery system. It features the ability to dynamically contour the treatment beam to address the tumor from every angle as the machine moves around the patient, according to Brainlab of Munich and Mitsubishi of Tokyo.
Clinicians can also move the treatment beam, dynamically and in real-time, to better treat lung and liver tumors, the companies said.
