Medical isotope developer IsoRay Medical of Richland, WA, has been awarded $527,000 under the U.S. government's Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP) program.
The funds will be applied to develop the use of IsoRay's cesium-131 brachytherapy seeds for internal radiation therapy in conjunction with lumpectomy surgery for early-stage breast cancer in accelerated partial-breast irradiation.
QTDP provides financial support for projects that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services believes could result in a new therapy, reduce healthcare costs, or represent an important advance in finding a cure for cancer.
