Electromagnetic localization technology developer Calypso Medical Technologies of Seattle has won an installation of its real-time localization technology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
The university's Siteman Cancer Center has equipped its Calypso system with the company's dynamic-edge gating technology, which was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2010.
The technology automates response to organ motion by sending signals to the linear accelerator to disable or re-enable the radiation beam during treatment based on the location of the tumor, according to Calypso.
