Mirada touts ASTRO study

Medical imaging software developer Mirada Medical said it has integrated its deformable fusion technology into radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems' SmartAdapt application.

The company will present a study on the technology at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in Miami Beach, FL.

The study examined the performance of Mirada's multimodal deformable registration algorithm for the fusion of head and neck, prostate, and cervical diagnostic MR scans to CT planning volumes.

Experts in radiation oncology from four independent clinical institutions assessed the technology's performance, and quantitative errors were measured using landmarks. In all cases, deformable registration significantly improved the alignment between MR and planning CT, approximately halving the registration error compared to conventional rigid alignment, according to Mirada.
