Proton radiotherapy developer ProTom International has begun installing a synchrotron accelerator at the McLaren Proton Therapy Center (MPTC), which is being formed on the Flint campus of the McLaren Regional Medical Center and the Great Lakes Cancer Institute by McLaren Health Care and ProTom.
The synchrotron is a component of Radiance 330, a work-in-progress proton therapy system under development at MPTC. Construction on MPTC began in October 2010, and the center is on track to treat its first patient in December 2012, according to ProTom.
