The U.S. proton therapy market is expected to reach $1 billion in revenues by 2022, growing at a compound annual growth rate of more than 16%, according to a new report from Research and Markets.
By that time, the U.S. will have 38 proton therapy centers, the company predicted.
Access to proton therapy has been limited, due to a low number of proton therapy centers and insurance coverage barriers. But as more hospitals invest in proton therapy and insurance coverage improves -- the technology is now covered by Medicare -- the use of proton therapy is expected to increase, Research and Markets said.
