Varian Medical Systems has received clearance from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare to market its Halcyon cancer treatment system in Japan.
Halcyon simplifies image-guided volumetric intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), according to Varian. It is twice as quiet as other systems and has a low couch height for easy patient access. It also features a 100-cm gantry opening and is capable of rotations four times faster than C-arm gantries for rapid imaging and treatment, the company said.
