Radiation oncology vendor Elekta has sued radiosurgery technology developer Zap Surgical Systems for patent infringement.
The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that Zap's Zap-X gyroscopic radiosurgery platform infringes on Elekta's U.S. Patent No. 7,295,648 for design of a rotatable treatment system. Elekta said it's asking for monetary damages with a threefold enhancement for willful infringement, as well as an injunction that prohibits the importation, manufacture, use, and sale of Zap-X in the U.S.
