The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) announced that it will hold its annual meeting in October online rather than conducting it onsite in Miami.

ASTRO's original destination meeting was scheduled for October 25-28 in Miami Beach, FL. But like many other conferences that have decided to go virtual due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ASTRO decided to move to an online format this year.

"This decision was based on our overwhelming concern for the safety and well-being of our members, their patients, exhibitors, staff, and the families of all involved," president Dr. Thomas Eichler said in a statement released by the society on May 4.

The meeting, called Global Oncology: Radiation Therapy in a Changing World, will include traditional offerings such as the Presidential Symposium; plenary, education, and scientific sessions; an interactive exhibit hall; and more than 2,500 abstracts, Eichler said.
