A keepsake ultrasound service in Ontario has admitted to providing expecting mothers with replica 3D images rather than the actual 3D ultrasound scans of their babies -- but blamed the mix-up on a computer virus, according to a report on CTVNews.ca.
The practice was discovered after what appeared to be identical 3D fetal images were posted in a Facebook group by women after their visit to BabyView 3D Prenatal Imaging in Pickering, Ontario. At least 13 different women have said on Facebook that they also received the same image.
The husband of BabyView owner and operator Moshina Adeelmir told CTVNews.ca that the replica images were caused by a computer glitch likely caused by a virus. As a result of the virus, each client's images were not going into the specific computer folders that were created for them, he said. In addition, a virus may have been replicating certain images in the clinic's computer system, according to the report.
However, the firm said it still doesn't know exactly what happened, according to the article.
This isn't the first time customers of keepsake ultrasound services haven't received copies of their actual baby's images. In 2015, an Australian woman pleaded guilty to providing fake images to expecting mothers at her keepsake ultrasound service in western Australia.
