Kolo to launch new ultrasound transducers

Kolo Medical is introducing new high-performance ultrasound transducers at the 2016 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), to be held September 18-21 in Tours, France.

Dubbed SiliconWave transducers, they are designed to deliver better performance in ultrahigh-resolution imaging, and they are the first practical alternative to traditional piezoelectric (PZT) ultrasound transducers, the company said.

The company's SiliconWave transducers are compatible with both existing and next-generation ultrasound systems, and they provide ultrawide-bandwidth imaging for applications such as thyroid, breast, small parts, musculoskeletal, vascular, and dermal imaging, Kolo said.

Three new transducers will be shown at the IUS meeting:

  • L38-22 linear-array transducer with a center frequency of 30 MHz for high-performance use in dermatology, as well as imaging superficial tendons and nerves and joints of the wrist, hands, and feet
  • M17-4 1.5D array transducer with a 120% bandwidth and frequencies from 4-17 MHz, which is able to replace multiple linear-array transducers for imaging small parts to deep vascular applications
  • L30-14 linear-array transducer with a center frequency of 22 MHz, designed for use in neonatal, pediatric, and musculoskeletal applications

The company will also show updated versions of two other SiliconWave transducers, L22-8 and L15-5.
