Evidence of home advantage was found in figure skating, freestyle skiing, ski jumping, Alpine skiing, and short-track speed skating in a study of Olympic medal awards from 1908 to 1998. The study, conducted by the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Science at John Moores University in Liverpool, UK, found little or no home advantage in ice hockey, Nordic combined, Nordic skiing, bobsled, luge, biathlon or speed skating (Journal of Sports Science, February 2001, Vol. 19:2, pp.129-139).
