Dear Ultrasound Insider,

With surveys from the U.S., Canada, and Australia concluding that roughly 80% of sonographers are performing procedures in pain, ergonomic programs are becoming a necessity. In this month's Ultrasound Insider Exclusive, Susan L. Murphey of consulting firm Sound Ergonomics offers much-needed guidance on appropriate ergonomic practices.

Murphey notes that education and ergonomics are crucial for preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Among her tips: sonographers should be aware of what postures produce pain, and should familiarize themselves with the proper use of adjustable chairs and exam tables to optimize scanning positions.
