CHICAGO - Unseasonably warm November temperatures have proved to be a welcome surprise for attendees at this year's RSNA show, where many are enjoying the rare event of traveling to McCormick Place without bulky jackets in tow.
Things are also heating up in the scientific sessions, where the latest research is being presented on new medical imaging technology. Today's coverage in our RADCast@RSNA includes articles on cardiac CT, full-field digital mammography, and whole-body FDG-PET for breast cancer staging.
In our first story, U.S. researchers have found that cardiac CT yields a large number of extracardiac findings. The story, available by clicking here, could provide a powerful argument for keeping radiologists involved in cardiac CT.
In another story, researchers from the Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial (DMIST) presented additional data supporting the performance of full-field digital mammography in the imaging of certain groups of women. That article is available by clicking here.
Finally, a group from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia presented a study today that found that whole-body PET added little new information in the staging of patients with known primary breast cancer. Get the rest of the story by clicking here.
