Cards use more imaging; rads retain control of ER

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

CHICAGO - Our coverage of RSNA 2007 continues this week with new articles on image utilization, based on scientific papers presented today.

In our first story, U.S. researchers found that cardiologists were the physicians with the highest rate of growth in imaging utilization, with usage increasing 65% over the study period compared with 22% among radiologists over the same time period. Get the rest of the details on the story by clicking here.

In a related article, the same group found that radiologists still retain overwhelming control of ultrasound and x-ray studies in emergency department environments. Details on that article are available by clicking here

Other stories we're highlighting today include an article on breast ultrasound boosting cancer detection, but at the price of more false positives, and helium diffusion MRI of lung damage caused by secondhand smoke.
