Minnies winners; JFR news; what happened to the ACR/ARRS merger

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

The votes have been counted and the results are in -- the results for the Minnies, AuntMinnie.com's annual event recognizing excellence in radiology.

We were privileged this year to have 169 candidates in 14 categories, including a new category, Most Effective Radiology Volunteer/Philanthropist. Other categories included Best New Radiology Device, Most Influential Radiology Researcher, and Best Radiologist Training Program.

Find out who represents the best of the best in radiology for 2010 by clicking here, or visit minnies.auntminnie.com. And thanks to everyone who nominated candidates for this year's competition.

JFR news

In other news, France's premier radiology congress, les Journées Françaises de Radiologie (JFR), convened in Paris on October 22, with meeting organizers drawing attention to the low level of MRI implementation in the country.

In the meeting's opening press conference, French Society of Radiology secretary general Jean-Pierre Pruvo, MD, drew attention to the dire state of MRI in France, which has one of the lowest ratios of MRI scanners to population in Europe.

France is also lagging in PACS implementation, a situation that a new initiative by the French government is seeking to redress. Learn more by clicking here, or visit our MRI Digital Community at mri.auntminnie.com.

What happened to ACR/ARRS merger?

Finally, when the American College of Radiology and the American Roentgen Ray Society said earlier this month that they were restructuring their alliance, the announcement was light on the specifics of just what broke up the 2009 merger between two of radiology's most influential organizations.

Now, we bring you the inside story on the breakup with an article by contributing writer James Brice. Not surprisingly, the societies hit turbulence over how to structure their continuing medical education (CME) operations. Get the rest of the story by clicking here.
