Dear AuntMinnie Member,
The results are in from this year's SalaryScan survey, and they show that radiologist salaries in the U.S. rose in 2010, while compensation for radiologic technologists (RTs) fell slightly.
The findings could be a sign that while radiologists are emerging from the past several years of recession in radiology, RTs are still suffering from a low vacancy rate for open positions, widely attributed to a glut of RTs in the workforce.
On a subspecialty basis, interventional radiologists continue to be the best-compensated, followed by radiologists who specialize in CT and then mammography. Among RTs, nuclear medicine technologists continue to reign as the highest-paid professionals, while those who work in mammography are working for less.

ABR gets serious about board prep
In other news, the American Board of Radiology (ABR) is getting serious about preserving the integrity of its board examinations. In a new column contributed by ABR trustees, the group describes how it's taking on the practice of question-sharing by residents preparing to take board exams.
Residents preparing for the boards have long used questions from previous exams to help study. But this practice erodes the integrity of the exam and is a reflection on the professionalism of those who do it -- indicating they haven't mastered one of the six competencies required to demonstrate they are a qualified specialist.
The ABR explains its focus on exam integrity in an article you can read by clicking here.
A thank you
Finally, we'd like to thank everyone who attended our PACS in an Age of Change Spring Edition virtual conference on May 17. We had nearly 1,200 radiology professionals from around the world attend, and the response to our presentations was heartening.
If you didn't get a chance to attend or would like to review what was presented, the presentations will be available for on-demand viewing for the next three months. Just go to pacsspring.auntminnie.com to get started.
