Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Did your AuntMinnie look a bit different when you visited this past week? It wasn't your imagination -- we launched a new design intended to make images more prominent and also make the site easier to navigate so that you can find the content you're looking for more quickly.
The changes also include a new design for our Letter from the Editor daily newsletter, including larger fonts to make the newsletter easier to read on mobile devices. I'd love to hear your feedback on the changes -- drop me a line using the "Contact" link in the signature below.
MRI exam volume falls
The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on medical imaging procedure volume in 2020, and nowhere was that more evident than in MRI. Exam volume fell 35% in 2020, most likely due to the pandemic, according to a new analysis from IMV Medical Information Division.
The IMV survey found that MRI procedure volume began falling early in the pandemic, and by April 2020, it was down 50% compared with January of that year. The numbers improved over the course of the year, but many survey respondents noted that their departments and imaging centers have had to implement new infection control procedures.
While you're in our MRI Community, be sure to check out our story on a U.K. study that used a short, 15-minute biparametric MRI protocol for prostate cancer screening rather than a more intensive multiparametric exam. In other MRI news, researchers from Washington University in St. Louis used the modality to create a "map" of the biology of glioblastoma.
SalaryScan closes Sunday
Our SalaryScan survey is coming to a close this Sunday at midnight EST. We've been collecting data on salaries for radiology professionals that we'll use to update our SalaryScan database, one of the most accurate resources for compensation and benefits in medical imaging.
Have you filled out the survey yet? There's still time. As always, all submissions are totally anonymous. And if you'd like to see our data from 2020, just go to salaryscan.auntminnie.com.
Finally, AuntMinnie.com will not be publishing on Monday due to the Presidents Day holiday. Enjoy the long weekend!
