The biggest news in radiology this past week was without a doubt the announcement that industrial conglomerate GE was planning a breakup into three independent companies, with GE Healthcare becoming a standalone pure-play company.
The news was surprising, but not shocking. GE has toyed with the idea of a breakup in the past, most recently in 2018 in a plan that was later shelved. Other large multinational corporations have also split off their healthcare divisions, most recently, Siemens with the launch of Siemens Healthineers in 2018.
GE's move reflects a new reality in which the large, diversified conglomerate has fallen out of fashion in favor of companies that, while still large in their own right, are more focused on their core vertical markets. Even as this newsletter was going to press, two more companies -- Johnson & Johnson and Toshiba -- announced breakup plans of their own.

PET guide to cancer therapy
In the clinical realm, PET continues to show promise for guiding treatment of patients with exciting new therapies. Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles analyzed the use of a gallium-68-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) radiotracer in patients with multiple types of cancers. They believe the findings lay the groundwork for FAP-labeled therapeutic isotopes.
