Week in Review: Meet the Minnies finalists | What worries rad admins | What next for AI?

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

The votes are in, and our expert panel has selected the finalists in the Minnies, AuntMinnie.com's annual event recognizing excellence in radiology

We started with over 200 candidates in 15 categories, ranging from Most Influential Radiology Researcher to Best Radiology Image. We've now selected two finalists in each category, and our expert panel will now make the final decisions on winners.

Meanwhile, we're still taking votes for a few more days in the Best Radiology Image competition. To participate, just visit our Facebook page and click "like" on the image you think should advance to the next round.

What worries rad admins

What do you think keeps radiology administrators and managers up at night? Right now, it's worrying about personnel shortages and staffing costs.

That's according to the latest data from the Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI), a joint collaboration between AHRA and market research group the MarkeTech Group. In the most recent MICI numbers, many survey respondents said that they feel squeezed between rising procedure volume and growing difficulties in hiring and retaining competent staff, particularly radiologic technologists.

In other recent coverage in our Imaging Leaders Community, researchers from Wisconsin found that -- perhaps not surprisingly -- neuroradiology work shifts with a high volume of cases saw more diagnostic errors.

Burnout is still a problem among radiology residents, says a new survey out of Florida. And don't leave the community without reading the latest article from our friends at Healthcare Administrative Partners -- an analysis of the Medicare Incentive-Based Payment System Value Pathways initiative.

What next for AI?

Finally, visit our Artificial Intelligence Community for a look at the next steps in the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology. Also read about a survey on how residents feel about AI.
