The American College of Radiology (ACR) Data Science Institute (DSI) has published an artificial intelligence (AI) use case for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The use case was produced to offer the AI developer community medical context for developing AI applications to detect COVID-19, according to the ACR DSI. It includes the necessary data inputs, outputs, and possible corollary features for an algorithm.
Dr. Eric Stern, chair of the ACR DSI Thoracic Panel, said that AI could help identify early onset of COVID-19 on chest CT scans, particularly in healthcare settings without access to many radiologists.
"Such an AI solution may prove to be a very useful application towards COVID-19 diagnosis and containment," Stern said in a statement.
