SevenMountains Software of San Mateo, CA, has joined a telemedicine project designed to bring healthcare services to Russian citizens living in a region of the Ural Mountains. The area has been plagued by radiation-related illnesses since a nuclear explosion took place there in 1957.
Seven Mountains will provide its 7M Integrate database management software for the Snezhinsk Project, which is developing a telemedicine link to the region. The product will control patient records in a dynamic, multipoint environment that uses software from other companies to link patient records with images and transfer them to remote locations via satellite.
The Snezhinsk Project is being conducted by the TELCOT Institute at the California State University, Hayward, on behalf of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the city of Livermore, CA. The sponsors hope that, in addition to providing better healthcare for Russian citizens, the project will lead to more collaboration between Russian and U.S. scientists.
