Synapse sparks five-year contract between Fuji and Westchester

Westchester Medical Center of Valhalla, NY, will install Fuji's Synapse PACS network throughout its four-hospital system, imaging vendor Fuji Medical Systems USA has announced. The five-year deal will involve the installation of 92 workstations and four NT servers to distribute medical images facility-wide, according to Fuji, of Stamford, CT.

The system will give caregivers at Westchester improved diagnostic content and immediate access to information from virtually any location on or off the hospital campus, according to Clay Larsen, Fuji's vice president of marketing and network development.

Unlike traditional PACS that rely on appended Web servers to support remote access, Synapse uses Web servers to deliver information to users both on- and off-site, eliminating the need for separate storage and user interfaces, according to the company. The design also allows for cost-effective expansion of the network as needed, Fuji said.
