Siemens launches ASP PACS program

Siemens Medical Systems has launched its application service provider (ASP) model for PACS, the Iselin, NJ, vendor said today. The new program allows Siemens customers to outsource the hardware, software, and services required to install a digital image management system.

Many healthcare providers are turning to ASPs to help them avoid the risk of installing a PACS network that subsequently becomes obsolete. ASPs also shift the responsibility for maintaining a PACS network from the end-user to the vendor.

Siemens said that its first ASP program is in beta testing at the University Hospital, Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. An ASP program for image storage and archiving will be commercially released shortly, with additional ASP services like soft-copy reading to be released shortly.
