Marconi Medical Systems has announced a collaboration with Internet security provider Xcert, which will provide its Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and digital certificate technology for use in Marconi’s Web-based PACS network.
Walnut Creek, CA-based Xcert’s technology will authenticate users, such as referring physicians, who can remotely access information over the Internet, thereby ensuring that sensitive health data is secure and is accessed only by authorized users, according to the vendors.
Cleveland-based Marconi says the enhanced security will also help healthcare organizations comply with the upcoming security requirements mandated by the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
