PACS vendors gear up for RSNA conference

The annual RSNA meeting is still the top show in radiology for the latest and greatest in new PACS technology. And this year’s conference is sure to impress, with security, ASP models, and systems integration advancements set to take center stage.

Privacy and data security concerns will figure prominently, with many vendors discussing their methods for helping customers comply with the security requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which will likely be finalized this year.

Other PACS trends include the ongoing shift toward the application service provider (ASP) model, with nearly every PACS firm introducing or planning an ASP-powered digital image management offering. Systems integration also continues to advance, thanks in large part to the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise initiative between the RSNA and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), now entering year two.
