A new dry thermal printer was among the highlights in the booth of Sony Electronics at last week's RSNA meeting. The printer, UP-D70XR, is designed to produce x-ray images more cheaply than conventional wet-chemical printers, according to the Park Ridge, NJ, company.
UP-D70XR has an image density of 3.0 and prints an image in 46 seconds, an improvement on the previous model of the product. The system is ideal for reference and consultation images for referring physicians, according to the company.
Other products on display in Sony's booth included a new digital video link unit for transmitting real-time video and audio; a work-in-progress line of medical-grade flat-panel monitors; and a work-in-progress fingerprint identification unit for providing secure access to medical data.
