VIENNA - Film and PACS vendor Agfa of Mortsel, Belgium, is launching a new electronic patient record (EPR) at this week’s European Congress of Radiology meeting. The product, called medAr, is based on RIS technology developed by Quadrat, a Belgian RIS firm that Agfa bought a majority interest in last year.
MedAr includes separate modules for enterprise-wide distribution of clinical results, electronic exam ordering, appointment scheduling, exam management and coding, disease-related group statistics, and other features. Agfa is demonstrating the software as part of a "virtual hospital" in its ECR booth, with medAr interfaced to the company’s PACS and RIS software.
In the dedicated PACS realm, Agfa is highlighting extensions of its Impax software to new specialties. Impax OT 3000 is a new workstation designed for orthopedic surgeons, and includes support for presurgical planning and pre- and post-operative comparison. The company is also highlighting its new cardiology-specific PACS.
On the image acquisition side, Agfa is giving European customers their first look at the company's scan head and needle-based storage phosphor technologies, first showcased at the 1999 RSNA meeting. By combining the two technologies, Agfa believes it will be able to improve the image quality and speed of computed radiography, while also reducing x-ray dose. The technologies were displayed as works in progress.
In conventional analog-based imaging, Agfa introduced ECR attendees to Drystar 4500, for CR and digital radiography applications, and Drystar 4500M, for full-field digital mammography.
