SALT LAKE CITY - Image distribution software developer Stentor has made enhancements to its flagship iSite Enterprise product. The South San Francisco, CA, company has released version 2.0 of the software, launching it at this week’s Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology.
iSite Enterprise is an integrated image and information management system designed to distribute images from the radiology department to the rest of the healthcare enterprise. The software is based on Stentor’s iSyntax image-streaming technology, which uses computer algorithms to transfer data to remote users more efficiently than traditional data transfer methods.
With version 2.0, Stentor has added support for worklist and workflow management, including physician-specific worklists with reconciled patient demographic data and diagnostic-quality images at the point of care.
Stentor developed iSite in collaboration with information systems firm IDX Systems of Burlington, VT. IDX contributed its Imaging Suite and ConnectR products to integrate iSite with other RIS and HIS networks. Both Stentor and IDX have rights to sell iSite under an application service provider (ASP) model.
In addition to the new version of iSite Enterprise, Stentor said it is developing new products that target radiology image review and long-term storage. iSite Radiology is a reading station that presents a complete overview of prior exams and patient history on a separate navigation console, leaving more monitor space for image display. The product is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2001.
Another new product, iVault, will serve as an online long-term image archive that will allow immediate accessibility to stored images for iSite users. The system is based on an array of network-attached hard disks in a 2.8 terabyte configuration, and is also based on iSyntax. Stentor claims the archive will eliminate the need for image prefetching, a technique commonly used by PACS archives to cope with large image transfer times. iVault is also scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year.
