Kroon to leave Applicare

PACS industry veteran Ruud Kroon will step down as general manager of Applicare, effective June 1. Kroon, who is leaving to pursue opportunities outside of the medical industry, will be replaced by longtime business partner and R&D director Harm-Jan Wessels.

Kroon co-founded workstation software developer Applicare Medical Imaging in 1987. Thanks to its highly regarded software, the Zeist, Netherlands-based company was a rare breed, one of the few small firms able to make a lasting impact in the market. Applicare has an installed base of over 10,000 users worldwide, according to the company.

In 1999, Applicare was acquired by GE, and today serves as a center of excellence for GE Medical Systems Information Technologies of Mount Prospect, IL. The company's PACS and teleradiology software is included in GE's PACS product line, and is also sold by approximately 20 channel partners, including Marconi Medical Systems, Artesian Medical, and Konica Medical Imaging.
