Ultrasound firm Acuson announced several new features for its KinetDx ultrasound PACS product at last month's Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology.
With a new archive-to-PACS capability, KinetDx users can use an existing PACS deep archive for image storage, avoiding the need for a local archive system. In other storage enhancements, KinetDx now offers an increased redundant array of independent disks (RAID) capacity for rapid access to ultrasound exams. Institutions can grow their on-line storage capacity in 32 GB increments, according to Acuson.
A new exam export to DICOM CD-ROM feature allows the physician or sonographer to export one or more ultrasound exams to a CD. This allows the patient, for example, to take home her dynamic exam on a CD instead of on still page prints. In addition, physicians can create a CD with exams for presentations. A DICOM viewer is automatically placed on the CD, eliminating the need for additional viewing software, according to the company.
Acuson has also added a disk display/import capability to allow for display or import of images from Kodak's legacy Access ultrasound image management network. Institutions with Access networks can now access their archived studies and transfer them to the hospital-wide enterprise system using KinetDx.
KinetDx now also supports what Acuson is describing as dynamic diagnosis, allowing multiple clips and images to be simultaneously presented on dual monitors for instant review. The dynamic clips can be viewed in a variety of display formats. In addition, KinetDx can provide in-progress exam review, allowing the physician to have a virtual presence in any exam room or remote location, according to Acuson.
The latest technology advancements for KinetDx are now shipping to customers in the U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, and Singapore, according to the firm. Acuson has installed 165 KinetDx networks worldwide, connecting 450 sites and over 750 ultrasound scanners.
